Biography of François-Joseph Berangér (1744-1818), neoclassical architect, great designer of landscape gardens. The text is illustrated by 61 engravings of plans of gardens, facades and interior decorations of palaces. The title mentions his position as Architecte des Menus-Plaisirs which links him to the universe of Marie Antoinette's Versailles, as responsible for the preparation of parties and court ceremonies, but above all his love affair with the famous singer Sophie Arnould, protagonist on the musical scenes of the time and beyond, so as to place Berangér "A l'ombre de Sophie Arnould"
